With classes online, and many of us working from home, we decided to cook up a series of three briefs for this edition, Roam From Home.

See the briefs and the work that folks submitted below!

GRATITUDE.jpg

Good deeds and kind words can be contagious, especially in times of constant uncertainty and doubt. Moments of gratitude can act as a counterbalance to the crazy shit of the world.

As the COVID-19 pandemic creates fear and anxiety, these moments of gratitude and courtesy serve as reminders that we are all just people, trying our best.

Think about displays of gratitude you have seen or experienced in the past month. Show us how you interpret gratitude and its role today.

The Comfort of Voice
by Susannah Turley

My work highlights the relationship I have with my grandmother through illustration and design. I used a voicemail that she left me at the beginning of quarantine that lets me know what she's doing, because I've been so worried about her during all of this. My grandma is one of my absolute best friends and listening to her voice is so soothing and grounding for me. I wanted to highlight how grateful I am for her constant love and support by showcasing her simple voicemails that she leaves me.

A Cup of Gratitude
by Kylie MacDonald

For me, the point of showing gratitude is to make someone feel like they are appreciated for their actions. The point is to make them feel like their actions have been seen, heard, and felt by the person they impact. One of my go-to ways of showing this is to buy someone their favorite cup of coffee or tea.

A magazine cover with one entry about how covid 19 has reminded me how much we need passions and projects to inspire us and push ourselves.

From Home Volume 3 by Alyssa Arcos

Afternoon walks have become the new thing. Grateful for the time that I spend outside exploring the little things.

PERSPECTIVE.jpg

When the natural order is disturbed, we’re forced to see the world in a different light.

Now, you may find yourself with more time to sit back and observe. Things that were once ordinary may feel extraordinary. What was once a forgotten backyard chair or a wave hello to a neighbor is now a highlight of your day.

COVID-19 has shifted everyone's perspective in some way. Make something that shows this shift in your own life.

Sanctuary by Giulio Pozzuoli

This is My porch. My consistent connection to the outside during this quarantine. Whether I am doing my homework out here, or just hanging out with my roommates. My porch was definitely taken for granted before all this started. Now I can not go a day without sitting out there.

No Full Practice Today by Kylie MacDonald

As a result of COVID-19, all sports activities were put on hold. This means that an athlete's daily schedule that once included workouts and practices, now has holes in it. While COVID-19 prevents team play, it now presents an opportunity for individual growth within my sport. The way I play lacrosse in a day may look different now, but it doesn't mean I stopped entirely.

MUSIC PRODUCTION RESOURCES DECK: THE ROAM EDITION
by DJ Tomcal

Even though I have been working on this deck way before the coronavirus, I wanted to figure out a way to inspire people through music production and help them know where to start. Being in quarantine gave me more time to focus on music production although it comes with its own challenges. When I first started making beats in FL Studio, I had a hard time finding a quality music production course to learn from. It is my hope that this deck helps new and intermediate music producers in the Journalism school and the University of Oregon find a course, find their sound and build off of this information in order to make something of themselves. I also hope it serves as inspirational for those who want to delve into the process of making a dope track. Additionally, I hope to keep adding new things to this deck and release multiple editions as time goes on. This is just the beginning.

The Art of Simply Trying: A Letter from Reilly Wadsworth on Perspective by Reilly Wadsworth

I am a storyteller. I always have been, I always will be.

But four weeks into isolation in my home, I am struggling to find a story to tell.

I do work in creative production and brand strategy. This entire piece was inspired by a mock script I was writing for a video I’m trying to put together. However, I find myself falling into old memories, old videos, pictures, anything just to feel that way again. Why is the present becoming numbing? Is it that I’m feeling so much all at once and I can pinpoint that one emotion, so it casts a shadow over them all? Or is it numbness, possibly for self-preservation. But could it be self-destruction?

I found myself asking this question and, once again, feeling overwhelmed. Another question, of course, right now I didn’t have the answer to. Until I remembered I could choose.

In times of utter chaos and confusion, we must remember simplicity. Yes, I know what you’re thinking, but even now it is possible to obtain within the grand scheme of it all. So let’s break it down: what do we have control over right now? I’m almost certain you know the one thing, and you’re right. It’s yourself. And with yourself comes the ability to control your perspective. Your perspective right now could be far more critical than you think.

UNPLUGGED.jpg

Our lives have recently moved from mostly digital to entirely digital. We want you to remove yourself from the screens to create something with your hands, not just your fingertips.

Make a nondigital advertisement for a brand of your choice. Use what you have around you.
